Jennifer A. Polack is a Full Professor of Computer Science at the University of Mary Washington, where she has made significant contributions to academia and the field of computer science. With a deep-rooted passion for education and exploration, Jennifer is dedicated to fostering a globally minded academic environment that enriches her students’ learning experiences.
Born and raised on Long Island, New York, Jennifer demonstrated an early interest in technology and education. She pursued her Bachelor of Science in Computer Science at the University of Scranton, where she initially faced challenges in her studies but persevered with the encouragement of her family. This resilience set the stage for her future success as she went on to earn a Master’s degree from Pace University and a Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of South Florida.
Jennifer has held various academic positions throughout her career, including Department Chair at Mary Washington. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes the integration of practical experiences, and she is particularly passionate about study abroad programs. She believes these programs are vital for cultivating cultural awareness and global perspectives in her students. Her recent initiatives include leading groups of students on study-abroad trips to countries such as Brazil, Argentina, and Iceland as part of her courses in Digital Storytelling.
Jennifer’s research interests are diverse, ranging from computer ethics to interdisciplinary studies. She has published numerous papers in reputable academic journals. She actively participates in various professional organizations, including the Computer Science Teachers Association (CSTA) and the IEEE, showcasing her commitment to professional development and community engagement.

In addition to her academic pursuits, Jennifer is a dedicated mother to two children, Oliver and Brianna, who inspire her daily. When she is not teaching or conducting research, she enjoys spending time with her family, exploring new cultures, and engaging with friends.
